According to an interview with Collider, Eichner and Macfarlane would never have met before work brother. The movie asked them to show chemistry, but when the actors got to filming the scene, they really thought it was in their favor. McFarlane was a fan of Eichner before they met, but they never met alone.
“I know Billy, I used to be a huge fan of him,” McFarland said. “We’ve never met alone, so when I first walked into that room, I felt like I knew this guy, knew who Aaron was, but I actually, actually, actually wanted to stay with him. Very impressed. Once we got to know each other somehow in the room, it was great. It was pretty amazing.”
Eichner agrees with McFarland but thinks it helps their character events.
“We didn’t know each other,” Eichner confirmed. “I think it helps in a way because we need to find each other as our characters find each other. I don’t know, we’re very related in a sense. We’re completely different in some ways. I think we have a lot of respect for each other now, but we’re also a little bit scared, I don’t know. We make each other a little bit nervous, and also because we don’t know each other. I don’t know. It just works for a purpose. Explain why trouble.”

Eichner discovered that he needed to shoot the most troublesome scenes on day one before he could get a chance to learn more about McFarland.
“I said, ‘I’ll do something, but I have two demands,'” recalls Eichner. “‘I had a huge scene in the middle of the film. Through this monologue, I revealed Luke’s character. I said, ‘Please don’t let me do this on the first day of the shoot. And don’t let me do this on the first day of the shoot Do any intense sex scene with Luke on the first day.
Eichner continued: “I did it on day one of the photo shoot. Nick said, ‘I’m really sorry. The way places work and all the things we have to do on day one now. This is what I really need One thing, but I’m happy with how it all turned out.”
McFarlane chimed in: “I remember being photographed in that scene, and on the first day you were photographed, you were taught all the names. You still don’t know who the DP is, you still don’t know who does your hair and stuff like that. ”
He concluded: “I was listening to this monologue and questioning what movie we were making because you have that dialogue in your head too. Guess what is this element of what we do? I think that monologue is the center of the movie in some ways. So sure. We actually need to dive in.”
The film was bombarded by public opinion before its release
Eichner and McFarlane made history with it brother, which is a major gay rom-com released by a serious Hollywood studio, which is all about LGBTQ entities. Still, not everyone can handle the shocking problem. Many movie ranking platforms do not allow viewers to charge for movies before they are released, but IMDb still prefers to allow them to take action.
According to Slashfilm, homophobic commenters bombarded the IMDb page with harmful comments and feedback ahead of the September 30 release date. The platform later removed the flexibility to charge movies in advance to avoid additional spam.
