Delta Lepers Demand N30,000 Minimum Wage From Gov-elect, Oborevwori

People living with leprosy (PAL) in Delta state are asking the state government to pay a minimum wage of N30,000, which they say will greatly ease their financial burden.

In a congratulatory message to Governor-elect Rt Hon. Sergeant Oborevwori, Sheriff Oborevwori, from their settlement in Eku, Ethiopia’s Eastern Parliamentary District, the state, lauded outgoing governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for coping with the suffering of PALs by consistently paying each of them the amount of N8,000 per month .

Former Lepers chairman Mr Paul Oake, who signed the letter, said their members were going through untold hardships every day as the public perceived them.

“No one wants to come near us, we beg to survive, even though some of us work menial jobs. In a country where the cost of food and services is skyrocketing, imagine what N8,000 can do for a friend and his family.

“That’s why we’re calling on the incoming governor to consider our minimum wage. He should also restore the leper’s shelter and give us a sense of belonging. Our members voted for him so he shouldn’t forget us.”

The leper left no doubt that Oborevwori would do better, as he had proven his ability as speaker of the state house for six years.

The chairman commended Governor Okowa for his massive transformation of the state, notably the over 2000km road network, health, education and skills acquisition programmes.
