Elijah McClain Autopsy Report: Amended Report Reveals The Cause Of Death

The Adams County Coroner’s Office has released an amended autopsy report on Elijah McClain’s death.

Here’s everything you need to know.

A new report suggests Elijah McClain died of ‘ketamine complications’

On September 23, the Adams County Coroner’s Office released a new report for Elijah McClain.

In case you didn’t know, McLean was a 23-year-old black man who died after a clash with police three years ago.

In addition, the updated report listed his cause of death as a “complication of taking ketamine following mandatory restraint.”

However, the report still mentioned that McClain’s manner of death was “undetermined”.

In addition, Adams County Monica Chief Coroner Monica Brancusia-Jordan issued a statement in response to the new report.

She wrote, “The survey shows that, [McClain] Received an intramuscular dose of ketamine above the recommended body weight.

In addition, Broncucia-Jordan revealed, “My review of all body camera footage shows that Mr. McLean was extremely sedated within minutes of receiving the ketamine injection.”

She further clarified, “Simply put, this dose of ketamine was too much for this person, resulting in an overdose, even though his blood ketamine levels were consistent with ‘therapeutic’ blood concentrations.”

Elijah McClain dies of ketamine overdose

Elijah McClain is shopping for tea at a local convenience store in Aurora on August 24, 2019. Additionally, Aurora Police officers approached him on Billings Street, north of E. Colfax Avenue.

Investigators received a call from a bystander around the same time. The caller said a suspicious man wearing a ski mask was waving his arms in the area.

However, McLean’s family lawyer said the 23-year-old was wearing a ski mask due to anemia.

However, officials said McClain resisted when trying to detain him. So they placed him in a carotid choke.

According to the Justice Department, the operation restricted blood to the brain.

Also, in the body video clip, we can hear McClain saying, “I can’t breathe.”

Regardless, police then called Aurora Fire and Rescue and put him on ketamine to keep him under control. However, they gave him 500 mg of ketamine, an overdose for someone McLean’s weight.

The report further mentions that McClain suffered a cardiac arrest while being taken to the hospital in an ambulance. But three days after the incident, he died.
