Eric Clapton felt compelled to organize a concert for George after George Harrison died

In 2001, after longtime friend George Harrison died of most cancers, Eric Clapton needed to act. He went straight to George’s widow and told her he needed to prepare something special for George. The end result was George’s Concerto.

Clapton was with the Yardbirds, and George was with the Beatles when they first met in the early 1960s. The couple officially met during a live performance at Lovin’ Spoonful. George thought the guitarist seemed lonely.
