Decker attended Rockory High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota.
He was at Roccoli High School when the shooting happened. He and the other students hid in a closet until police arrived to rescue them. Decker plays football, basketball and baseball, so he’s a good athlete. He has been named to teams in all conferences, all regions and all divisions in every sport. Decker was named the football team’s most valuable player two years in a row. During high school football, he caught 2,156 yards and 28 touchdowns.

The University of Minnesota is where Decker studied. In his first college game, against Kent State, he caught a pass from quarterback Brian Cupito for a 39-yard touchdown. In a Sept. 23 game at Purdue, he completed a 22-yard pass. As a freshman, Decker totaled 378 yards and three touchdowns.
As a sophomore, Decker played a bigger role on offense. In the first game of the season, Bowling Green won the game, catching four passes for 49 yards. Against Miami, he caught seven passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns (OH). In their next loss to FAU, he caught 12 passes for 165 yards and touchdowns. In the Oct. 20 loss to North Dakota State, he threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Ralph Spry. In the end, he caught 909 yards and nine touchdowns. In a season the Golden Gophers finished with a 1-11 record, Decker led the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns. He is tied with Ernie Wheelwright for touchdowns.
Decker started his junior year with 10 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown against Northern Illinois. The next game, against Bowling Green, he caught six passes for 86 yards and touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown from 12 yards. The following week against Montana State, he caught nine passes for 157 yards and touchdowns. In the next game against FAU, he received seven passes for 122 yards and one touchdown. This gave the Golden Gophers a perfect 4-0 start. The following week after Minnesota lost to Ohio State for the first time of the season, Decker caught 190 yards and 13 catches against Indiana. Minnesota lost 42-21 against Kansas in the Insight Bowl. Decker had eight catches for 149 yards and a touchdown in that game. By the end of his junior year in 2008, Decker had 84 catches for 1,074 yards and seven touchdowns. He has more catches, yards and touchdowns than anyone in the 7-6 Golden Gophers.
In the early spring of 2009, Decker met with Thomas Goody, a wide receiver coach in St. Louis, Missouri. Goudy showed Decker how to handle the ball better. Decker spent three weeks in training camp before heading to summer camp. Decker started the season with an equally solid start to his career mark with the Gophers. After three games, Decker ranks sixth in the nation in receiving yards. Against Syracuse, he had 183 yards, against the Air Force, he had 113 yards, and against California, he had 119 yards and two touchdowns. Sports Illustrated columnist Stewart Mandel said Dekker is the third-best wide receiver in college football, behind Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant and Georgia’s AJ Green. After the game against California, Decker had eight catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns against Northwestern. In the following game, against Wisconsin, he had eight catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. After injuring his foot against Ohio State on October 27, 2009, it was announced that Decker would miss the remainder of the season. By the end of his senior year, Decker had 758 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Decker is on the Minnesota baseball team. He plays in the outfield. In 2008, the Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the 39th round of the MLB draft. In 2009, the Minnesota Twins selected him in the 27th round of the MLB draft.
2010 is the first year
The Denver Broncos selected Decker with the 87th overall pick in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
He signed an agreement that ran through 2013 and paid him $2,522,000. Decker missed the Broncos rookie minicamp and OTA because of foot surgery. Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said he wants to be ready for the first game of the season. “We’re going to be cautious at this point and not put them in a situation where they’re suddenly hurting their feet on the last day of minicamp on June 13,” McDaniels said. “I hope everything should be ready by August.”
The Broncos signed Decker to a four-year contract on July 27, 2010. Dekker led all NFL rookie receivers during the preseason, but because the Broncos had too many receivers, Dekker didn’t play until the end of the season. However, he did help special teams. He had seven special team tackles, 17 drives for 429 yards and an average of 25.2 yards per return.
The Broncos began using Decker on offense late in the season after rookie DeMarius Thomas was injured.
Decker had six catches for 106 yards and one touchdown in his first season.
