Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a rational Democrat from Arizona, came under fire on social media after joining Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in praising her “broad factor.”
On Monday, Sinema appeared with her Republican counterparts at an occasion at Louisville College’s McConnell Center. The Kentucky senator, who described Sinema as “the best first-term senator” he’s ever seen, has built a reputation in an evenly divided Senate because he’s often been a roadblock to the Democratic agenda. Sinema then spoke fondly of their “friendship”, noting that they shared related “values”.
“Regardless of our apparent differences, Senator McConnell and I have developed a friendship,” Sinema said. “One is rooted in what we now use widely, and our pragmatic approach to the law [and] We respect the Senate as an institution. “
“In partisan Washington now, some Democratic senators would see the Republican Senate chairman as her good friend, which would shock some people,” she added. “In Arizona, however, we don’t look at life in a partisan way… While we can’t agree on everything, we do share the same values.”
