Adrian Martinez has opted for a physically active partner since his girlfriend Marissa Weichel played forward for Kansas State. He attended Papilion-La Vista South High School because that was his hometown.

Martinez attended Clovis West High School in Fresno, California. In high school, he played basketball and soccer. He tore his labrum while playing basketball, which prevented him from playing football as a senior. He was named Fresnoby Footballer of the Year as a junior after rushing for 1,462 yards and 14 touchdowns and passing for 2,562 yards and 25 points.

Martinez was rated a four-star prospect and the seventh-best dual-threat quarterback in 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite.

2018 freshman Martinez became the first true freshman to start a season as Nebraska’s starting quarterback when head coach Scott Frost named him the Location. In the Cornhuskers’ opener against Colorado, Martinez passed for 187 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception and added 117 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on the ground. Nebraska’s final score was 33-28.

Martinez’s knee injury in the final minutes of the Colorado game also kept him out of the next game against Troy, which also ended in a loss to Nebraska. Martinez returned from injury but was unable to help the Cornhusks return to winning form as the team lost its first six games of the year, the worst start to a season in program history. Martinez’s first career win came against Minnesota, where he threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns, and again hit the ground 53-28.

He was named a Top Ten Combined Freshman of the Week (along with Rondale Moore). After a loss to Ohio State on Nov. 3 and a win over Illinois State on Nov. 10, Martinez has two more Top Ten Rookie of the Week honors.

Martinez finished his freshman season with 2,617 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions. He added 629 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns on the ground. He ranks sixth in the Big Ten in passing yards and total touchdowns and fourth in passing points.

Martinez entered the 2019 sophomore season with high expectations, earning preseason honors at Big Ten media days and even a Heisman Trophy candidate discussion. However, he struggled to lead Nebraska to a 5-7 record in a disappointing season.

After a disappointing 2019 season and a Covid-19-impacted offseason, Martinez entered the 2020 season under pressure. In Ohio State’s first game, Martinez went 12-15 with a 105-yard pass and an 85-yard touchdown. After an underwhelming second-week loss at Northwestern, head coach Scott Frost decided to start redshirt freshman Luke McCaffrey in the upcoming game against Penn State.

Martinez would be back on the court late in the 4th quarter of the Illinois game as McCaffrey threw his third interception of the game. Martinez, who will remain a starter for the remainder of the season, has shown improvement in his first two starts. His final game of the season at Rutgers was his best as he completed 24 of 28 passes for 255 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. He had an additional 181 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in that game.

In high school in 2019, he played for the Titans and helped the team to its first Class A state tournament since 2011. He then scored a team-high 16 goals and provided 8 assists.

As a result, that same year, she was named to the All-Nebraska Women’s Second Team, All-A First Team, and more. From 2019 to 2020, he played 8 games and scored 2 goals. Additionally, on August 22, 2019, in his first game against San Diego State, he scored within 27 seconds of the start.
