Pop star Rihanna will make headlines at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, nearly three years after turning down the opportunity.
Rihanna confirmed the information via Twitter on Sunday, with a simple submission that included a photo of the singer holding an NFL-branded football. The information was also confirmed by Apple Music’s official Twitter account, which sponsors PepsiCo’s pretty standard annual live performances.
“It’s on,” the Apple Music account tweeted. “[Rihanna] Will make its Apple Music Super Bowl halftime debut on 2/2/23. “
Roc Nation, the music label founded in 2008 by Jay-Z to which Rihanna is currently signed, also released a statement confirming the message and praising the singer’s continued success.
“Rihanna was an expert from generation to generation, a woman from humble beginnings who exceeded expectations every time,” Jay-Z wrote in a statement scope. “A man born on the tiny island of Barbados who has become the preeminent artist of all time. Self-made business and leisure.”
Super Bowl LVII will take place on February 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

In 2019, the singer turned down the possibility of taking the helm of the 2020 show, which ended with Shakira and Jennifer Lopez at the helm. As a reason for her decision to show the present, Rihanna cited the NFL’s treatment of former San Francisco 49ers contestant and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick, who began kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to protest police brutality and racial injustice. Controversy over the decision is believed to have contributed to his departure from San Francisco and subsequent lack of ability to communicate with other NFL staff.
