Tina Turner tells Cher and Oprah she’s ‘ready’ to die
Tina Turner told Cher and Oprah Winfrey she was “ready” to die before she died at the age of 83 on May 24.
“She’s been fighting this disease as strong as you can imagine,” the 77-year-old “Believe” singer said Thursday. Call MSNBC “The Beat with Ari Melber.”
“But I know that by the end, she had told me, she said, ‘I’m really ready. I just don’t want to take it anymore.'”
Winfrey, 69, another close friend of Turner’s, mentioned in another interview that the “Proud Mary” producer expressed similar feelings.
“Of course I knew she was sick, but I met her in 2019, I went to see her in the hospital, and she told me she was actually ready to leave, which meant ready to leave the planet,” the former talk show host a show he said Thursday on CBS Morning Show.
“I thought that would be the last time I saw her.”
Turner’s family announced Wednesday that Turner died after battling a “long-term illness.” A day later, her rep revealed the legendary musician had died of natural causes.
While Cher didn’t specify exactly what’s wrong with Turner, she admitted that the Miss You singer has a dialysis machine at her home in Switzerland.

Dialysis is a treatment used in people with end-stage kidney disease. Turner opened up about her health concerns in an Instagram post on International Kidney Day on March 9.
“My kidneys are my unconscious victims [sic] My high blood pressure should be treated with regular medication,” she said he told his followers Then.
“I put myself at great risk by refusing to face the reality that I would need to take medication every day, for life. For a long time, I believed that my body was an untouchable, impenetrable fortress.”
Aware of Turner’s struggles, Cher told “The Beat with Ari Melber” she has cherished the time she has spent with the rock diva in recent years.
“I started visiting her because I thought, ‘I need to take a moment for our friendship so she knows we haven’t forgotten her,'” the “Tough Enough” singer recalled.
“So we all took turns to be with her, which made her very happy.”
Cher added that Turner gave her a parting gift the last time they visited together. “The last time I saw her, she gave me a pair of shoes,” she revealed. “What shoes? Tina Turner shoes!
