In June 1978, three weeks after graduation, he killed 18-year-old hitchhiker Steven Mark Hicks at his family’s residence under the guise of a mass ingestion, his first homicide.
Six weeks after Hicks was killed, Dahmer attended Ohio State University (OSU), where he majored in business administration. In January 1979, he dropped out of school and enlisted in the military after his first period, but left after just over two years.

Jeffrey Dahmer was honorably discharged from the military in 1981, meaning he was officially discharged after a period of trustworthy and loyal service.

He moved in with his father Lionel and stepmother Sally, but was arrested for drunkenness and disorderly conduct just two weeks after his return. He was fined $60 and given a 10-day conditional prison sentence.
After two months there, Dahmer was sent to live with his grandmother in West Allis, Wisconsin, in the hope that he could start over.
The problem briefly arose with Dahmer, who was working as a phlebotomist at the Milwaukee Plasma Heart Center before launching 10 months later.
On November 20, 1987, Dahmer murdered 25-year-old Steven Tuomi at the Ambassador Resort in Milwaukee and was subsequently arrested for indecent propaganda, indecent and lewd conduct, and wrongdoing.
By the time of his arrest on July 22, 1991, Dahmer would have committed 15 more murders.
Since Dahmer’s crimes softened in the early 1990s, two soldiers claimed Dahmer raped him while he was serving.
